Why Travel Tuesday: Bali, Indonesia

(Every Tuesday, I will be featuring a photograph from a place I have gone to, a photograph which I believe will inspire others to go out and see the world for themselves. For this week, Why Travel Tuesday features a photo from the island of the gods: Bali, Indonesia.)

Bali, Indonesia
Scootering around South Bali equals a day well spent.

The beautiful island of Bali has been on top of my mind lately. I'm currently planning a trip for mid-2014 and the only place in Southeast Asia not affected by the highly unpredictable monsoon is the large archipelago below the equator: Indonesia. I've actually traveled to Bali but spent only one day there (just transiting at the time). So I'm thinking I should make the next trip count. Then again, another part of Indonesia beckons: Sumatra and the idyllic region around Lake Toba, a place that used to be part of the "banana pancake trail," but more importantly, a place that promises to give me value for my travel money. (Right?) I feel like I wouldn't make a mistake either way though, so I might as well make a decision. That I'll do real soon.

Given the chance to travel for at least a week, where would you go? Bali or North Sumatra?
