Why Travel Tuesday: Malang in East Java

(Every Tuesday, I will be featuring a photograph from a place I have gone to, a photograph which I believe will inspire others to go out and see the world for themselves. For this week, Why Travel Tuesday features a photo from my current whereabouts: Malang in East Java.)

Malang, East Java
Sun setting behind a 3,300-meter high volcanic massif. Now isn't that something?

I have been traveling in Indonesia for almost two weeks now and it feels like so much has happened already. I guess that's how it is with long-term or extended travel. I am quite glad, too, that I allowed myself a lot of flexibility with my backpacking Indonesia itinerary, considering that the road leading to one of my planned destinations, Dieng Plateau in Central Java, is currently under construction and thus, no buses can go through. So I headed here in Malang, East Java earlier than expected. No regrets though. This old Dutch colonial outpost is lovely with its cool breeze, relaxed vibe, and stunning views of the Arjuno-Welirang Massif to the northwest. I'm going to take it slow here seeing as my next destination will take me to the less popular and more remote route towards East Java's most famous volcano, Mount Bromo. Now that will be quite an adventure.

(I realize things have been quiet around here and there's a reason for that. I could spend time, a lot of time actually, sorting pictures, post-processing them, coming up with story ideas, researching on those ideas, and writing the actual stories, but I have decided not to. My time in Indonesia is limited and I could always do those tasks later. There is so much to see out here that it would be morally unforgivable for a traveler to stay indoors. You'd understand, right?)

Can you forgive me?
