Why Travel Tuesday: Calatagan, Batangas

(Every Tuesday, I will be featuring a photograph from a place I have gone to, a photograph which I believe will inspire others to go out and see the world for themselves. For this week, Why Travel Tuesday features a destination I never realized would impress me enough to post about it. Chalk it up to summer's pleasant surprises: Calatagan, Batangas.)

Calatagan, Batangas
The perfect family summer day trip from Manila: Calatagan, Batangas

The Philippine weather bureau finally pronounced the start of the monsoon season in the country. With that, I wrap up my travels in the Philippines, at least for now as we wait for the next dry season at the end of 2013. It was a good run this year. I again summitted Mount Pulag, the highest peak on the Philippines' largest island. I stood awestruck before the iconic picture of tropical paradise in El Nido, Palawan. I trekked up to a remote mountain village to see the last tattoo artist of the Kalinga. A lot of adventures. Of course, before the dry season ended, there had to be one proper goodbye to summer. And by some stroke of luck, the whole family was there, too, by the beach in the beautiful waters of Calatagan, Batangas. I say that's lucky because thas was the first time in many years that the whole extended family had gone to the beach once again. Well that just made me excited about what the next dry season might bring.

Where did you go this dry summer season? Anywhere in the Philippines and/or Southeast Asia?
