Why Travel Tuesday: Gates of the Annapurna Sanctuary

(Every Tuesday, I will be featuring a photograph from a place I have gone to, a photograph which I believe will inspire others to go out and see the world for themselves. For this week, Why Travel Tuesday features one of the most spectacular landscapes I ever got to see and walk through: Gates of the Annapurna Sanctuary.)

Annapurna Sanctuary Trek, Nepal
Gates of the Annapurna Sanctuary looking back down from the approach to Machhapuchhre Base Camp. Squint hard enough and you will see trekkers in the base of the valley.

I have been thinking a lot about Nepal lately. Perhaps it is because it is on the news a lot nowadays as May is trekking and climbing season in Mount Everest and the rest of the Himalayas. Perhaps it is because I just wrote a 2,000-word story on it for a magazine I regularly contribute to. Then again, it is a bit difficult to forget unbelievably beautiful places like Nepal, even more so when you spent more than three weeks backpacking through this Himalayan kingdom. Some landscapes within the country, like the narrow gorge we walked through as we entered the Annapurna Sanctuary, are just hard to forget. Views like that stay with you forever.

In which places did you get to see some of the most spectacular landscapes in your travels?
