Why Travel Tuesday: Thai Red Curry

(Every Tuesday, I will be featuring a photograph from a place I have gone to, a photograph which I believe will inspire others to go out and see the world for themselves. For this week, Why Travel Tuesday features one of the things I miss the most about living in Thailand: Thai Red Curry.)

Gaeng Phet Moo (Thai Red Curry), Thai Food, Thailand
Thai Red Curry, spicy in all the right places

You know the absolute worst about being a traveler? Especially a traveler who loves food and diving (face first) in the food cultures of the places he travels to? It's missing the smells, the tastes, and the sensations of culinary wonders discovered and having no easy (nor affordable) way to obtain them nearby. Having lived in Chiang Mai, Thailand for a few months, it's the rich spiciness of the foods that I miss terribly. In Chiang Mai, I grew to love spicy foods, the tongue-numbing, tear-inducing kind. One of the best Thai foods which exemplifies that rich spiciness is Thai Red Curry. Locals call it Gaeng Phet, which in Thai means "spicy curry." Beautifully succinct, isn't it? Today, any meal without a spicy component feels incomplete to me. I am deliciously scarred for life.

Which food you encountered in your travels do you miss the most?
