Why Travel Tuesday: Yunnan Province, China

(Every Tuesday, I will be featuring a photograph from a place I have gone to, a photograph which I believe will inspire others to go out and see the world for themselves. For this week, Why Travel Tuesday features the sweet smile from an ethnic Bai woman in a place I am to finally blog about in the coming weeks: Yunnan Province, China.)

Things have been quiet around here in the past week. I have been on the move, you see, wildly exploring a mountainous place just a few hours from my chosen base for this year. The mountainous place is Mae Hong Son, Thailand, and I cannot believe I had not gone here earlier. Mae Hong Son reminds me of another place I have gone to, actually, the stories and photos about which I have been keeping all to myself until now. Mae Hong Son reminded me of the landscapes and peoples of Yunnan Province in China, a place I longed to see, remote and challenging from where I stood, and actually saw. This post is the first of the series of posts about this far corner in Southwest China. As for Mae Hong Son, I am glad to say that I am not yet done exploring the area, not even close. I am even considering scrapping all my winter plans and staying a bit more. We'll see.

What are the places, things, and people that remind you of your travels?
