Why Travel Tuesday: Hanoi Bun Cha

(Every Tuesday, I will be featuring a photograph from a place I have gone to, a photograph which I believe will inspire others to go out and see the world for themselves. For this week, Why Travel Tuesday features one of my top seven Vietnamese food favorites, one of the most delicious Vietnamese foods to ever touch my mouth: Hanoi Bun Cha.)

Hanoi Bun Cha, Vietnam

The very popular Vietnamese beef noodle soup that is Pho is not the Vietnamese dish which I make a B line for every time I am in Vietnam, specifically Hanoi, where I am now. Nope. What tickles my foodie fancy up here in Vietnam's northern capital city is that which they call Bun Cha. Bun Cha is a specialty around these parts. It's a complex dish consisting of rice noodles, green leafy vegetables (a whole lot of them), grilled meat patties and pork pieces, and, something which rounds up all these, a hot salty-sour fish sauce broth. You dip the noodles, the vegetables, and the grilled meats in the broth and have yourself a small feast. Like my beloved northern Thai noodle dish that is Khao Soi, Hanoi Bun Cha is a lunch dish. Have them any other time of the day and you might as well be eating garbage. I exaggerate, but you get the drift.

What is your favorite Vietnamese dish? Have you had Hanoi Bun Cha? Did you like it?
