Why Travel Tuesday: Khao Soi Curry Noodles


(Every Tuesday, I will be featuring a photograph from a place I have gone to, a photograph which I believe will inspire others to go out and see the world for themselves. For this week, Why Travel Tuesday goes all foodie once again and features my most favorite Thai dish of all time: Khao Soi.)

Khao Soi Curry Noodle Dish, Thailand

Forget Pad Thai and Thai Spring Rolls for a moment. Here is a dish that, frankly, is reason enough to visit northern Thailand: Khao Soi. (I think the heavens just opened up when I wrote that.) It's soft egg noodles immersed in a thick curry broth, topped with deep-fried, crispy egg noodles. It's genius, it's what it is. The broth is coconut milk-based and the curry can either be cooked with chicken, pork, or beef. I should clarify at this point that the dish is not exclusively Thai. It is in fact a Burmese-influenced dish and many versions of it can be found in this region, that is, the Golden Triangle of Myanmar, Laos, and Thailand. I am planning on creating a post on all my favorite Thai dishes, just like what I did in Vietnam. I mean, I have already been here for quite some time and yes, been stuffing my face with locals eats and what not. But more on that later.
