Why Travel Tuesday: Smiles of Thailand

(Every Tuesday, I will be featuring a photograph from a place I have gone to, a photograph which I believe will inspire others to go out and see the world for themselves. For this week, Why Travel Tuesday features a smile from a country known for its smiles. I'm back in Thailand, folks.)

Dancer, Doi Suthep, Chiang Mai, Thailand

So it is true what the Economist says: the return rate for first-time tourists in Thailand is very high, like a whopping 50 percent high. Hey, it must be true. I am back here. Maybe it's the food or the ease of travel without it being boring. Or maybe, it's just the smiles. The girl in the photo is one of the cultural performers dancing for tourists in the very popular temple Wat Doi Suthep in Chiang Mai, Thailand. She just stumbled on one of the steps during the dance. Everyone noticed and let out a laugh. So she flashed a cute smile for all the spectators around her. I'm glad I was there in that touristy and just-for-show place to capture that very real and candid moment.

Have you been to Thailand? How many times, I wonder. Do you think it really is the Land of the Smiles?
