Dumaguete: Walking Food Trip

If there was one thing I would recommend that visitors do in Dumaguete, it would be a walking food trip in Dumaguete. There are a lot of good foods in Dumaguete, foremost of which are chicken barbecue and sans rival. For our walking food trip in Dumaguete, we went to Citiburger and The Sans Rival Shop.

The walking part for this food trip in Dumaguete is important here. One, even though Dumaguete is officially a city, it's a very walkable city, quite perfect really for a food trip. You can go from one foodie place to another in Dumaguete without having to hail a tricycle (the king of the road there). And two, you'll need the brisk walk going from one foodie place to another for this food trip in Dumaguete. Walk off the pounds you just gained.

First stop for our walking food trip in Dumaguete is chicken barbecue. For our chicken barbecue (I would not even dare to use inasal or inato here), we went to Citiburger. It is quite a famous joint in Dumaguete for chicken barbecue. They do have burgers, but I think people come for the chicken more. And they should.

What a friend advised that we do in this walking food trip in Dumaguete is to separate the meat from the chicken, cut it in small pieces and then mix those with the fried chicken skin served as complementary appetizer. I gotta say. With the atsara, that combination worked. This practice is highly recommended. It will make your food trip in Dumaguete unique and unforgettable.

For dessert (which for us actually came first) in this walking food trip in Dumaguete, we went to the very famous The Sans Rival Shop. It is a very small resto-confectionery located along the city's bay walk. There were four of us in this food trip in Dumaguete and each ordered a different cake. We got leche flan, sans rival, tiramisu, and a cookie-like cake, the name of which I could not recall.

The sans rival was exceptional. It was moist and it had the right texture all over. The sweetness and the buttery-creamy flavor was just right. My mouth waters just thinking about it. The cookie-like cake was a surprise as well. It was something we all never had. It's texture is like that of a choco-chip cookie but flaky and sticky when you bite onto it. It was good. This walking food trip in Dumaguete is turning out to be a very good activity indeed.

For pasalubong, we got sylvannas from The Sans Rival Shop, a very popular pasalubong in all of Visayas. If you see people carrying a blue-white box in Dumaguete, you can bet that may have gone on a food trip in Dumaguete like us and got them some sylvannas for take out. It is so good, people from other parts of the country, Manila included, have it delivered. The next time you know someone who is going to Dumaguete, recommend that they do a walking food trip in Dumaguete and request the sans rival as pasalubong.

That wraps up our walking food trip in Dumaguete. Now, admittedly, these photos have been stored in my hard drive for quite some time now. But hey, that walking food trip in Dumaguete reminds me so much of why I considered Dumaguete to be a city I would like to retire in someday, or have a vacation house, at least.
